A Challenge activity consists of memorizing a longer passage from the Bible
or general information about the Bible or Bible times. These activities
are good for all elementary school students. We begin by listing
suggestions for helping the children in your Christian Children's Ministry class master the Challenge. Then we list
several ideas for Challenge activities.
Suggestions for Mastering the Challenge
 |
The Challenge should fit the skill levels of the
class. For example, a first grader might be challenged to learn to
read Psalm 23. An older student could memorize part or all of the
Psalm. |
 |
Build the skills from week to week through repetition.
 |
First week, let each student read the first verse of the
challenge. Then let each student say the first verse from memory. |
 |
Second week, let each student read the first two verses
of the challenge. Then let each student say the first two verses
from memory. |
 |
And so on. |
 |
Requiring individual participation encourages everyone
to master the challenge. |
|
 |
Use Games to make it fun. |
 |
 | Divide the Challenge into verses or phrases and write in large
letters on separate sheets of paper. Use velcro to attach the
individual phrases to poster board. Recite the Challenge,
remove a verse and say it again. |
|
 |
Reward and celebrate success. Tell the children you
will throw a pizza party or have a special snack during regular class time
if all the regular comers in the class master the challenge. Tell them
they can invite their friends. |
 | Identify the students that have mastered the Challenge but
are too shy to recite it one on one with a teacher. Figure out a way
to help them succeed. |
