A person's promises reflect his or her character. Help the children learn
about God and His character by studying some of the promises He has made to us.
 | Divide the children into small groups. Select several promises from
this List of Some of God's Promises and give
each group a different promise. |
 | Ask the children to read the promise and list the things they learn about
God and His character by reading the verse. |
 | Examples are included below. |
 | Covenant with Abram. Genesis 12:2, 3. "I
will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your
name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless
you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be
blessed through you." Genesis 12:7. "The
LORD appeared to Abram and said, 'To your offspring I will give this
land.' So he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to
him."
 | A child can learn from this verse that God is powerful, God is in
control of and acts in His creation, God is loving, God is generous, God
chooses people to work for his kingdom, God wants to bless all people,
etc. |

 | Deuteronomy 31:8 - "The LORD himself goes before you
and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not
be afraid; do not be discouraged."
 | A child can learn from this verse that God loves us, God is loyal, God
is an encourager, God wants us to feel secure, etc. |

 | James 1:5 - "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask
God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given
to him."
 | A child can learn from this verse that God is smart, God is generous,
God does not play favorites, God answers prayers, God wants us to make
wise choices, etc. |

 | 1 John 1:9 - "If we confess our sins, he is
faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all
unrighteousness."
 | A child can learn from this verse that God is forgiving, God wants us
to admit our mistakes, God is holy, etc. |
